Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on a favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. But is Dash that right guy? Or are Dash and Lily only destined to trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations across New York? Could their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions? Or will they be a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions? Rachel Cohn and David Levithan have written a love story that will have readers perusing bookstore shelves, looking and longing for a love (and a red notebook) of their own.

Review: As soon as I read the blurb of this book I knew I had to read it. Just the way that short extract, (see the three italic sentences above) were written I knew this was a quirky book that guaranteed to be entertaining. Plus it's all about christmas, who wouldn't want to read it in the winter month of December? Dash and Lily's Book of Dares is a novel about desires and young love. It shows how two people can get close to each other through the written word. Their opinions aren't clouded by appearance and other things. It is just their own heartfelt words to one another. They write about things they will tell no one else, they share secrets and raw emotions with one another. Each word bringing them closer together. It is a sweet festive read with quirky writing and lovable characters. It's a brilliant novel and a great holiday read.

Dash and Lily's Book of Dares begins when Dash enters his favourite book store and goes to the shelf that holds his favourite authors books. Only nestled between the books is a red moleskin notebook containing clues from Lily. Dash steps up to the challenge and finds the clues that will eventually lead to Lily. The thing is Dash won't let the game be played one sided so he leaves some clues of his own. Separately they follow one another's clues until they meet in the middle, the thing is, will it be a happy ending?

Lily had been left alone for Christmas with her lucky in love brother who would rather spend time with his boyfriend then his own sister. To keep Lily distracted he gives Lily a red notebook and tells her to leave clues that will hopefully lead the perfect guy to her. I liked Lily she was a sweet girl who loved Christmas and books. She had a huge family who were all rather eccentric and lovely. She had the idea for her prince Charming in her head but would the intriguing boy leaving her clues match that image?

Dash was happily spending Christmas alone. He was a very intelligent and knowledgeable young man who loved all things bookish. He was different, he was slightly geeky. He was perfect. He was rather confident and brave enough to step up to Lily's dares and counter attack with his own. Dash on the other hand hated Christmas so they did have their differences but together they were perfect. Both were charming and characteristic and I loved them both!

The other thing I loved was the authors writing style, it was quirky and funny and just kept the reader amused throughout the whole novel. The two authors must have great chemistry together. The style has just made me fall in love with them and I can't wait to read their other novels. Dash and Lily's Book of Dares is a fabulous festive book about young love in New York. The  chemistry between the characters could melt snow. If you're looking for a festive, fun love story then look no further, this is the novel for you!

As part of the festivities, WinterHaven Books is hosting an international giveaway that will include a copy of Dash & Lily's Book Of Dares (Signed By Levithan and Chon) and a copy of Let It Snow to four lucky winners. Good Luck and Happy Holidays!

  1. I loved this book and I think it will become a classic YA christmas book and top of the list at that.
